I'm no "domain mogul" by any means, but I have gotten into domain investing and domain name appraisal a little in the last few months. Of course, I wish I had more capital to work with, but the knowledge I have learned is relevant to anyone doing this.

Thing I found out that is most relevant is that domain name appraisal and the value system is very subjective. One company, whom shall remain nameless, had a domain that who's asking price was $50,000. I did not believe it because the research I did yielded a very poor website with hardly any traffic. The Alexa rank was in the teen-millions and it was basically just a pay-per-click site probably from the 90's when that kind of stuff was still going on.

Anyway, I did a domain name appraisal through that company and they came back with a value of $17,000. Still way too high for the domain name, when I could get the same name with an added "my" in the front from GoDaddy for $9.99. Now, you do the math and tell me if the value system is messed up or what!
